Teenage Kicks 2
So, the honeymoon's over, the gloves are off and I'm going to have to start earning my money... what had initially been amusing teenage exuberance overgrew into a near-rebellion in one class last week and having had to read the riot act to them in response (as well as call in a tactical bollocking from their homeroom teacher) it now looks like I'm going to be facing a room full of sulks and loathing every Wednesday afternoon for the next few months. Fun and games. Fortunately it's only one class that's got this bad (although quite a few of the other 14 and 15-year-olds have proven themselves especially egregious Ps in the A). A foretaste of parenthood? At this rate I'm going to get it chopped off!

Hi Adam hun.
ReplyDeleteWell, these are the tests, trials and tribulations of teaching teenagers (well, all young age groups really). In a sense, with no parent(s) present, you are the substitute parent, and, as with all parents, children push and push to see where and when the breaking point is, i.e. the boundary line. Stick at it Adam hun, you're doing a grand job even though you may think otherwise at times. As for a room full of sulks and loathing. Youngsters have short memories in that respect and you only need to 'click' with one or two of them and win some of them over to your side and, the rest will collapse like a pack of cards and you'll find life will become much easier after that. There may be the odd renegade but that's always what happens in life. That's my experience of similar if it helps. Anyway, I hope classroom teaching is beginning to ease for you and you'll soon find yourself fully enjoying your new job again. Love & Hugs. Mum. x
